Important Announcement

It has come to our attention that a limited number of Cyclowiz units from the latest batch have an issue which will disable functionality. Due to a problem at the PCB factory, the A, B and C points of the CycloWiz are connected together. Unfortunately, some of them were already shipped to customers. All customers should verify that they do not have one of the affected Cyclowiz before installing their chip. Please refer to our identification guide below.

We offer a free replacement for each defective unit through our retailer network. Should you have a defective unit, please contact your retailer to arrange replacement immediately.

Those who do not wish to wait for a replacement unit can try to fix the chip by themselves, should they so desire. We'll post a tutorial on how to do it tomorrow. Should you wish to try this method but are ultimately unsuccessful, we'll replace the chip even if it's damaged during the modification procedure.

We will also offer free replacements with D2B chipset support for people who have a D2B console and a CycloWiz from an the first batch which doesn't support D2B chipset. If your chip came in a branded CycloWiz ESD bag, it means that it already supports the D2B chipset.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused to those affected. Customer satisfaction is very important to us, we'll make sure this kind of problem won't happen again. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact:

Zitat:
02/16/2007 (Read yesterday's post for an important announcement)

It has been reported that some current generation mods suffer from the old "Idle Disc Read Error (DRE)" bug that was frequent in early badly designed GC modchips. Some people wrongly concluded that it could be the case with CycloWiz, but fortunately it just can't be, and here is why.

The Wii drive, unlike GC drive, is aware of standard DVD format. Standard DVDs can be read by any Wii (yes, an official DVD player is in theory possible) but as a protection mean some commands used by games are disabled when a standard DVD is inserted.

CycloWiz job is to re-enable those commands. Unlike some other mods, CycloWiz lets the original Wii firmware handle every aspects of DVD reading. In fact, CycloWiz is probably the only chip on market that doesn't use bitsetting at all. That way, no continuous patching is needed and no desynchronisation can occur. As soon as the disc starts spinning, CycloWiz becomes transparent (you could even remove it!), it's all in the drive's hands.

We won't say that it's impossible to get a DRE with CycloWiz due to media. Simply use a good burner with good media and and you'll never have to worry about DRE. We are also aware of an unrelated deterministic DRE problem with three PAL games. We will provide an upgrade correcting this issue in a couple of days, along with some surprise features

"Use a good burner and good media"

Ja was denken die denn, was ich gemacht habe!

Zitat:
After many and many trying to get the Wiinja working, here is my finding about the massive disk read errors (DRE) we nearly all receive with burned games. I'm a low-level developer and I use to write some code for set top boxes, PC motherboard BIOS and some consoles. I can dump the communications between the Wiinja PIC and the Wii DVD Controller, you just have to use a slighly modified version of Erant's Wii DVD tool and connect it on board with the Wiinja connected. That's how the modchip cloners get the Wiinja code. So, here are my findings :

1/ Dump a Zelda TP PAL version. To be sure your dump is correct, download http://www.irnis.net/files/xcsci.exe and check your dump. The correct version comes with a CRC32 of "576D9391" and an MD5 hash "C46C133885383F96E7515C5CEFD152D2".

2/ Burn your dump with Imgburn on a good quality media. Just check the media quality for PI Errors / PI Failures with DVDInfoPro, Kprobe or something like that. If you get very low PI Errors (< 20 average) and Pi Failure (< 1 average), forget about spikes, your media is well-burned.

3/ Launch Zelda TP and put your characters just before a map change with some loadings. Wait 40 secondes, go to the cut scene. You will receive a DRE. Notice that your DVD switched into idle mode.

4/ Switch between two maps quickly (less than 10 seconds), you will never face a Disk Read Error.

Now, more interesting

5/ Place your characters just before a map change. Wait 40 seconds or more then, eject your burned copy, insert it again and do the map change. You will not face a DRE because the DVD drive didn't have the time to switch to idle.

6/ Now use you original copy of Zelda and listen to the DVD Drive, it will never switch into full idle mode like for a burned DVD-R.

So, the issue is not a DRE, but comes from the time between DVD spin-up from full idle mode and the first DVD access for reading. This bug is easy to solve with some hardware tweaks on the Wiinja code (you can deal with the DVD Drive Speend and idle timings in an easy way with some high/low levels commands).

BTW, there is nothing we can do from an user side and you can try all DVD-Burner / Media you want, you will always get rid of these errors. A new revision of the Wiinja is coming, but you will have to spend another €30 to update it. The first revision of the Wiinja wasn't enough tested and this bug is really a MAJOR bug.

So, beware of first generation modchip, they just don't work as expected for many users.

PS : Of course, Cyclowiz and other first generation modchip are concerned too.
